10/30/2005 - One Million Americans Helped
Program Ranks Grow by More than 5,000 Each Day; Patients and Physicians Praise Program - In just six months, the Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA), a national program dedicated to helping people in need access prescription medicines, has matched more than one million patients with assistance programs that likely meet their needs. The PPA is the largest private-sector effort to connect uninsured or underinsured patients to patient assistant programs, many of which provide medicines for free or nearly free. America’s pharmaceutical research companies launched the program on April 5th of this year in partnership with prominent health care, physician and patient advocacy organizations.

New Campaign Targets Doctors Serving Low-Income Communities - The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA), a national program helping patients in need access prescription medicines, launched an innovative campaign empowering thousands of physicians in low-income areas to improve the lives of uninsured patients. The campaign, conducted in partnership with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), will educate more than 70,000 family physicians and provide them with tools that can enable patients to access free or nearly free prescription medicines.

Millions More Could Be Helped, But Unaware they Qualify Industry Commits to Spend Additional "Tens of Millions of Dollars" to Publicize Programs - The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA), the largest private-sector effort to assist patients who need help paying for prescription medicines, today issued a landmark report on its progress. According to the report, "Helping One Patient at a Time," the effort is highly successful in directing new patients to prescription assistance programs – helping more than 600,000 patients in just 100 days. The report also noted that millions more may be missing out on benefits because they are either unaware of or do not think they are eligible for prescription assistance programs.

Partnership for Prescription Assistance Adds New Options to Proven, Effective Program – The Partnership for Prescription Assistance, a national program helping low-income patients who lack prescription drug coverage access prescription medicines, today announced a significant expansion of its resources. The proven and effective program now offers access to more than 475 patient assistant programs and nearly 2,500 prescription drugs to people in need. This nearly doubles the number of patient assistance programs and prescription drugs previously offered through the Partnership for Prescription Assistance.

"Help Is Here Express" Bus Tour Launches During Cover the Uninsured Week - The Partnership for Prescription Assistance, a new national program to help patients in need get access to prescription medicines, today launched the "Help Is Here Express" bus tour. The bus tour kicks off during the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Cover the Uninsured Week to inform millions of uninsured patients that they may qualify for assistance in paying for their prescription medicines.
